Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Winning Performance at Athlos in NYC
The athlete recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the World Championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.
"The environment at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only event packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns substituting standard medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the winners with their crowns.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also attracted several top athletes, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
