Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
