In “It’s a Deal”, a look back discloses that fan-favorite character Alastor the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his mortal days. Knowing full well he was headed to the underworld, he established communication with the realm beyond beforehand to obtain a strong position there. The charismatic leader, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the most powerful Condemned Soul in Hell” in return for his eternal spirit.

This prompts an important query: How is this character sufficiently strong to raise Alastor over every other Demonic Sinners?

“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the initial building block in a larger narrative that involves so much, moving into season 3,” the showrunner explains. “Obviously that is an excellent question: How is she that powerful? The solution could be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I am thrilled for fans to witness it.”

It is uncertain how long the audience will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have approved seasons 3 and 4, but the showrunner often remarks that animated production is a time-consuming endeavor, and later seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she states withholding on those details is a crucial aspect of maintaining season 2’s focus in the right places.

“The challenge of any agreement with demons, or stories that have mysteries, is providing people sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and allowing that be gratifying,” she comments. “So I'm very excited.”

Questions Answered in The Next Season

The showrunner promises that season 3 will tackle the questions followers have been posing, such as why the cannibal leader ordered Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which diminished his influence in Hell.

“The whole seven years, and the pacts these humans are doing, and everything — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she says.

Meanwhile, the origin story episode provides a further look into what the core cast of Sinner Demons looked like as mortals, the second after viewing another character's Victorian-era mortal appearance in episode 2. She says that significant consideration was put into the visual creation of these forms.

“The human versions of these personas carry great significance,” she says. “They range from looking quite distinct from their infernal version to seeming very similar. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion internally between going with a design that represents the personality, as opposed to going with something that's historically correct. We leaned toward creating a design that just felt like it was him.”

She mentions the biggest debate over Pentious’ human design was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had extended hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we think the outline is so important, and we also just felt he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We kind of provided the rationale that he lived in seclusion, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there is always a solution. As we design the mortal forms of these personas […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and figure out. I'm excited for people to view additional of what the human forms look like.”
