Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.
Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.
And both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the club - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.
Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the search of hiring a new head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.
The former West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
